Description

NORTHERN CHAMBER ORCHESTRA WITH CRAIG OGDEN, GUITAR
THE STOLLER HALL, MANCHESTER
SUNDAY 22 MAY 2022 3.00PM

We are delighted to have teamed up with Northern Chamber Orchestra once again to be able to offer you tickets to another muiscal treat.

Vaughan Williams Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis | Grainger Irish Tune from County Derry | M Arnold Guitar Concerto op. 67 | Sculthorpe Nourlangie | Elgar Introduction and Allegro for Strings Op. 47

The NCO is joined by Australian guitarist, Craig Ogden, who performs Malcolm Arnold’s Guitar Concerto and Peter Sculthorpe’s Nourlangie, influenced by South East Asian and native Australian music. Irish Tune from County Derry is a great example of Australian composer Percy Grainger’s distinctive style, richly harmonised for strings.

Those who have seen Ken Russell’s Elgar biopic will associate the Introduction and Allegro with an exhilarating horse ride in the Malvern Hills. Vaughan Williams’ Tallis Fantasia uses a second string orchestra which echoes like monks chanting in the cloister.

For this concert the orchestra is joined by students from Chetham’s School of Music.

Sunday 22nd May 2022
