Aurora Orchestra

Surrey Quays Rd, London, SE16 7PJ

Description

Printworks London teams up with the UK’s most innovative orchestra for a special event curated to immerse all senses in a classical masterpiece, incorporating the highest quality production that guests have become familiar with, as Printworks prepares to welcome its community back to the Presshalls.

In 2014 Aurora became the first orchestra in history to perform a whole classical symphony entirely from memory, without sheet music or music stands. The results were electrifying. With no barriers between players and audience members, performing by heart unlocked a unique sense of communication and spontaneity, as well as a host of new theatrical possibilities. Since then Aurora has pioneered performance by heart in concert halls across the globe.

For this special event, Aurora for the first time combines the potential of an orchestra playing from memory with the vast scale of the Printworks Press Halls to give a uniquely immersive experience of Beethoven’s Symphony No 7. Experience the thrill of a symphony from inside and get up close to the orchestra’s players as they perform in ways that would be impossible in a concert hall: ‘exploded’ across the vast Press Halls; moving in procession; performing in darkness. Whether you’ve never experienced an orchestral concert or have loved this symphony all your life, this event will offer a completely fresh and revelatory take on Beethoven’s music.

Aurora’s performance at Printworks is supported by the Royal Philharmonic Society Audience Fund in association with the Rachel Baker Memorial Charity.
‘Playing from memory, Aurora created an organic sense of community, dynamism and inspiration.’
